The United Nations Climate Change Conferences, such as COP, are held annually within the framework of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). They serve as formal gatherings for UNFCCC Parties (Conference of the Parties or COP) to assess progress in addressing environmental change and tackle concerns related to carbon footprint and CO2 emissions reduction.

Since their inception in the 1990s, these conferences have played a crucial role in shaping global climate agreements. One significant outcome was the establishment of legally binding obligations for developed nations under the Kyoto Protocol to reduce their CO2 emissions and address their carbon footprint.

Starting in 2005 the conferences have additionally filled in as the "Meeting of the Parties Serving as the Meeting of Parties to the Kyoto Protocol" (CMP); also parties to the convention that are not parties to the protocol can participate in protocol-related meetings as observers.

From 2011 to 2015 the meetings were utilized to negotiate the Paris Agreement as a component of the Durban platform, which established a general path towards environment activity. Any final text of a COP must be agreed by consensus.

The first conference of UN Climate Change took place from 28 March to 7 April 1995 in Berlin, Germany.

People are now able to understand the science behind environmental change, better evaluate its effects, and better develop tools to address its causes and outcomes.

Thirty years and twenty-six COPs later, it’s the high time to understand about the potential climate crisis and how to address them. There is an urgency to find an appropriate formula to reduce greenhouse emissions & reverse the negative impacts on climate. In 2015, the world showed necessary compromises and came together which led to the successful adoption of the Paris Agreement. These UN Climate Change Conferences are like true opportunities for change towards sustainability if we think imaginatively, work collectively and exhibit the necessary political will.

People from all over the world are welcomed at COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh, to reaffirm the commitment to the worldwide environment agenda despite all the challenges. COP27 is an open door to exhibit unity against an existential danger that we can beat through coordinated activity and compelling implementation. The Presidency of Egypt will guarantee that COP27 becomes the event when the world moved from discussion to execution and where words were meant activities, and where we all collectively walk towards adopting sustainability, and eventually a greener future for coming generations.
