recipe

If you truly enjoy homemade spreads with a touch of natural sweetness, then pear honey is a must-try for you. This delightful syrup is not only easy to make but also a healthier alternative to artificial sweeteners.

Its rich, fruity flavor is to melt. Whether you want to drizzle it over pancakes, add it to your smoothie bowl, or simply use it as a glaze, we are sure you will love it. And so today’s blog is all about pear honey.

We will tell you what it is and how to make it, and we will share some recipes that you can make with pear honey. Let’s start.

What Is Pear Honey?

Despite the word ‘honey’ in its name, pear honey actually contains no honey. So why the name? Well, the name is inspired by the honey-like taste of the spread and its texture.

Now, if you are wondering where it gets its sweetness from, we will tell you. It is from sugar. The best? All the sugar and your pear honey will still be far away from tasting overly sweet.

Let’s Get to Making It

Ready to make pear honey from scratch? Here’s what you will need:

  • 1 (20-oz) can crushed pineapple with syrup

  • 16 cups (about 6 lbs) pears

  • 10 cups sugar

  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Once you have gathered all the ingredients, follow the steps below:

  • Start by peeling all the pears.

  • Next, remove their core and chop them into pieces.

  • Take a pan and mix all the ingredients. Yes, everything.

  • Now, stir and cook it until the mixture turns thicker. This should approximately take about 30 minutes.

  • Once cooked, pour it into clean, sterilized jars and seal it while it is still hot.

  • Once the jars are cool, you are free to refrigerate them.

The entire process should take you about 45 minutes and give you 12-16 half-pint jars of pear honey.

Pro tip? If you want to know whether it’s ready, take a spoonful of the mix and place it on a chilled plate. If it holds its shape and does not run, it is good to go!
